6 Proven Ways to Stay Healthy During Flu Season

flu prevention

As the seasons change, so does the risk of falling victim to the flu. Flu season can be a challenging time for many, but with the right strategies, you can boost your immune system and minimize the chances of getting sick. Below are our top 6 proven ways to stay healthy during flu season!

1. Get Your Flu Shot

The first line of defense against the flu is getting vaccinated. Annual flu shots are recommended for individuals of all ages. Give Lake Milton Pharmacy a call to ensure you are up-to-date with your vaccinations and receive the latest flu shot!

2. Wash Your Hands

Frequent handwashing is a simple yet effective way to prevent the spread of flu viruses. Use soap and water, and scrub for at least 20 seconds. If soap is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

3. Boost Your Immune System

Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Ensure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin C and zinc, to support your immune system. Need advice on what vitamins to take? Give us a call!

4. Stay Hydrated

Adequate hydration is crucial for overall health and helps your body function optimally. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and support your immune system. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day!

5. Get Enough Sleep

Quality sleep is vital for a strong immune system. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to allow your body to repair and regenerate. Establish a consistent sleep routine to promote better overall health.

6. Exercise Regularly

Engage in regular physical activity to strengthen your immune system and improve overall well-being. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, such as brisk walking, jogging, or cycling. Stuck inside? Make sure to get up and walk around a few times every hour!

By incorporating these habits into your daily routine, you can significantly reduce the risk of contracting the flu during the flu season. Remember, prevention is key, and a proactive approach to health and hygiene goes a long way in safeguarding yourself and those around you. Stay healthy, stay informed, and embrace a flu-free season!

5 Reasons to Choose Your Local Independent Pharmacy over a Chain

independent pharmacy vs chain

When it comes to filling a prescription, the choice between Lake Milton Pharmacy and the large chains can significantly impact your healthcare experience. Opting for the personalized touch and community-oriented service of an independent pharmacy undoubtedly offers a multitude of benefits that go beyond a mere transaction.

Here are 5 reasons you should choose your local independent pharmacy over a chain.

1. Personalized Care

One of the most significant advantages of choosing Lake Milton Pharmacy is the quality care we offer. Independent pharmacies provide personalized care and an array of services tailored to your individual needs.  These extend well beyond the mere dispensing of medications.  From specialized vaccinations to point-of-care testing and medication synchronization, we prioritize your well-being. Such tailored services create a more holistic approach to your health, focusing on individual requirements and fostering a genuine relationship between us and you, our patient.

2. Shorter Wait Times

In today’s fast-paced world, time is a precious commodity. Independent pharmacies typically provide shorter wait times compared to larger chains. This means more time for the things you love and less time waiting in lines or navigating complex systems. The efficient and personalized service of Lake Milton Pharmacy streamlines the prescription filling process, making it a hassle-free experience.

3. Easier Access to Pharmacist and Staff

Navigating through an automated call system to reach a pharmacist or staff member at a chain pharmacy can often feel like a daunting task. At Lake Milton Pharmacy you can always expect to hear a friendly voice on the other end of the line. With us, you can quickly connect with a knowledgeable professional, skipping the hassle of automated menus and complex prompts. This direct access to expertise ensures your concerns are addressed promptly and accurately.  We are here to take care of you and your family’s needs.

4. Accuracy and Reliability

Lake Milton Pharmacy operates without the pressure of meeting corporate quotas, allowing us to focus on the core aspect: your health. This emphasis on accuracy and safety in dispensing medications ensures that each prescription is filled with precision and care. By prioritizing your well-being over corporate metrics, independent pharmacies ensure a higher standard of accuracy and reliability in your medication.

5. Support Local

Supporting local businesses like Lake Milton Pharmacy significantly impacts the community. Statistics show that a more substantial portion of the money spent at local businesses stays within the community compared to what is retained when spent at large corporate chain stores. For every $100 you spend at a locally owned pharmacy, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national pharmacy chain, only $43 stays in the community. Choosing your local independent pharmacy isn’t just a choice for higher quality healthcare; it’s a decision that supports the community by fostering local economic growth and sustainability.  Your loyalty provides our ability to continue to provide care and medication for you, your family as well as your neighbors.

The choice between Lake Milton Pharmacy and a chain goes well beyond mere convenience. It’s a decision that influences your health, the local community, and the quality of service you receive. Opting for your local independent pharmacy means prioritizing personalized care, efficiency, accessibility, and community support—an investment in both your well-being and the local economy.  All of us at Lake Milton Pharmacy appreciate your continued loyalty and support!
